The Curriculum Project

Aided by funding from the Bravewell Collaborative, a paper outlining curriculum recommendations—"Core Competencies in Integrative Medicine for Medical School Curricula: A Proposal"—was authored by Consortium members and published in the June 2004 issue of Academic Medicine.

A companion publication presenting model curricular materials—Curriculum in Integrative Medicine: A Guide for Medical Educators—was distributed in May 2004 to medical schools throughout the country for their adoption. The Guide is meant to assist medical educators in developing their own curricular materials. It contains samples of materials contributed by leading medical educators that illustrate approaches to introducing CAM and integrative medicine topics.

Among other content, the Curriculum in Integrative Medicine includes modules on:

  • Complementary and Alternative Medicine (CAM)
  • CAM field experience
  • CAM legal issues
  • Interviewing skills
  • Herbal medicine
  • Spirituality
  • Mind/Body skills
  • Cross-cultural issues
  • Healer's Art experiential unit

The compete curriculum is available on the Consortium's website.
